This was Mike Leavitt's (#213) 1st District 34 ride since that unfortunate leg injury he had last fall. But Mike was hard charging all day and looked to be on the "top of his game".  Carlo Coen also surprised everyone with his debut ride on a 4-stroke  (Carlo, 4-stroke?, I was surprised!).  And when the gate dropped on +30 expert for the first holeshot of the 2004 season, you guessed it:
                          Off the Gate      1st turn
Kurt Mcmillen (#28) had a spectacular opening day and put his trusty CR250 into the lead in most classes and taking 1st overall on his 4-stroke Honda in the 125 expert class.

It seems that this has also been a tough season opener even for the web camera. I was getting a warning light on my camera warning me of a low battery condition.  In fact, I , misread the condition (no doubt because I have simply not used this camera all winter). Anyway, it was really a "no focus" warning and it ruined most of the pics.  I'm really sorry about this as I feel that timely  posting of the results is one of the most important thing on a track's website.  So next time I will make sure that WE GETA CONFIRMED FOCUS INDICATOR before I snap any results pics!

If anyone "local" can mail me those missing results pages (and get to them before they are soaking wet!) I will re-photograph and post them up.  Contact me here.   Would much appreciate it!

Note:  Be sure to SCROLL RIGHT if you don't see the class you are interested in, when the image first appears, as two sheets are usually photographed at once.

Quad Pics ===>   Sorry, no quad pics.  Seems that I bit off  "a little more than I could handle" riding 3 expert classes on the district opening day (and collapsed in a friend's motor home for a while or I would not be able to ride 2nd half).  I know, "no excuses" when your only 30 years old but it caught me by surprise.  Anyway, you guys get FULL CAMERA PRIORITY next race (and not the least of because you didn't get to ride 2nd half).

"Little Joe Fritz" (#318) with his first District 34 Holeshot in 250 Novice
Here is Joe with perfect launch style off the gate and it rewards him moments later with a clean holeshot.  Joe then took advantage of it and led for most of the race (and definitely with his dad's winning riding style too) and rolled through the checkers in 2nd place.  Great moment for the Fritz racing family!

Our season opening rounds (practice and race day) were, admittedly, not without their problems.  We certainly recognize these issues and will do our best to get back on track again for the rest of the year.

Lastly, we'd like to mention that our thoughts are with the riders who were injured this past Sunday, particularly Doug Owen who was the rider injured in the 2nd half collegeboy moto.  We have exchanged a few messages with Doug's mom and hear that Doug is doing well but that he was still having moments when its difficult for him to concentrate on things properly.  As all of us long time MX riders know all too well:  recovery from a serious fall takes place one day at a time and can span many weeks before the body gets down to some serious healing.  With that said we would like to thank all of our district riders in advance for remembering to be behind Doug during this difficult time and to wish all of you a safe 2004 season.
