This race is dedicated to
one of our most respected riders,
Sal Benanti
#721, who passed away in his sleep dreaming of the sport he was
about to participate in had the good lord given him "just one more day".
Sal was 70 years old when he passed and was our
district's oldest, active rider. Friend and mentor to many,
impressing all with his steely resolve, we bid you godspeed Sal and
eternal peace.
We also want to express
our gratitude to the entire Benanti family (above) for coming to our
memorial event and helping make this day even more special to us. Sal's
son, Salvatore jr,
led a parade lap around Diamondback
in his father's
honor. Each high place finisher received a
memorial plaque.
"I know Sal, I
know; we promise to carry on better than ever, stronger than ever!"
