Pictures from the 6/17 Race Day

  1. On Saturday, before this race, the weather forecast was calling for heavy showers overnight.  So John Coen, the track owner, cleared out the local Home Depot's stock of "60 foot tarps" and covered all critical track sections.

  2. 2nd college boy moto gave Brian Scherer the holeshot (with #200 Pat Mahan in hot pursuit).  Brian held the lead for the 1st half of the moto.  Funny thing:  Brian actually is a  "college boy" who is whom for the summer.

  3. Sal (65 year old) was racing again this weekend !      Here he is with  Joe Fritz and Keith Mann.

  4. Carlo cheering his Pee_Wee son on.

  5. #13 Pee Wee

  6. #174 roosting out of a Diamond turn that had been TARPED

  7. "Pancaking" into TARPED corner.   He was  OK.

  8. Kyle Hutson railing a corner that had NOT been "tarped"

  9. #516 Pee Wee and that wild helmet

  10. Scott Behren's chasing his son (#7). Go Austin!

  11. Scott Behren's (#77) getting a little too radical staying ahead of #101

  12. #719 rode a great race chasing Carlo Coen.  Here a rare bobble in a dry corner.

  13. Carlo giving advice and encouragement to the next generation

  14. Best Joe Fritz racing picture ever.  Its fun being 44 years old !

  15. Huss Daddy (Art Hussey #878) showing BIG STYLE near the big sweeper.

Diamond ran a special Father's Day race that pitted non-racing Dad's (on full sized bikes) against regular district 34 hard core racing dad's (on 80's).  Click here for details. The non-racing Dad's won in a really exciting race  ====>

  1. The race WINNER (Jesse Hurn !) right after the moto.
Jesse; with family after the moto
    .

  1. Mike Ceglia (ACE club member) was really pumped about his first moto ever!  Mike Ceglia before "the gate" dropped.
    Mike after the big "bounce"!
    #982 Mike Ceglio !

  2. Fritz and #55 battle it out right to the end !

  3. Joe Fritz (regular +40 expert race) with his son

  4. And the race is on!
another angle on the Father's Day holeshot

  5. Mike Hoensch (regular +40 expert racer) on his daughter's bike

  6. Quad Dad

  7. Found this dad trying to hide at the end of the gate

  8. One of the track photographers groans at the end of his father's day moto.  Now what picture have we seen him in before???    Ahh... caught photographing the 4/22 race!

  9. #136 Father's Day Racer

  10. #38 Father's Day Racer

  11. #58 Hoensch on the mini bike

  12. #62 Father racer

  13. Joe Fritz showing BIG STYLE in the Father's day race chasing #55

  14. Scott Behren's on the kid's XR100

Here's a coincidence for you:  2 riders putting their heart into winning the Father's day race (Joe Fritz and Jesse Hurn).  But by chance; myself and the other photographer (Mike Hoensch's friend) took pictures of each other "taking pictures".  But note the shudder timing.  We both snapped the shudders at the EXACT SAME MOMENT (as measured by the bike's suspension position).  And what are the odds we both chose this one spot on the entire mile long Diamond Track?

So, by complete accident, here is your digital camera comparision.  My camera is a $79 "economy" digital.  Mike Hoensch's is a $400 Olympus D460 model.   Its easy to see the difference in clarity and lighting. But most importantly note how the Olympus stopped action (even the spokes).  Mine don't do that!  If you are in the market for a new digital camera for action shots: get the Olympus.
Anyway, it was a great race.  The "race of the day" for sure.

I almost named this race the "great tarp race" for the unprecedented District 34 move to attempt to cover a larger, outdoor track with tarps.   But that Father's Day Race pic just came out too good (on my $79 camera).

About sending me pictures:  Measure them in pixels;  max width 700 pixels, max height 400 pixels. If not,  it takes a   "billboard" to display it as they are usually oversized and consume tremenedous resources.   "Crop and Resize before you email"   A picture should be about 50kb in size (give or take 25kb).
